Convincing performance
Our references demonstrate the wide range of applications for GRANOVA as a secondary building material. Each measure is different in nature because each project has its own challenges. However, they have one thing in common: The use of incinerator bottom ash aggregates improved the sustainability record of every project.
ROADS AND EARTHWORKS
German-Dutch motorway project A 61
Incinerator bottom ash was used for the construction of the A 61 motorway section near Venlo on the Dutch side of the German-Dutch border. As a result, this sustainable design was also chosen in Germany. The result was the use of arround 250,000 tonnes of IBA on the German side of the project. more
Construction of the country road L 585n
In this project, the use of secondary aggregates was made possible by use of a preliminary fill with natural materials. The construction was carried out with IBA in the core of the road subgrade. more
Commercial site development
Decisive for the use of incinerator bottom ash aggregates in the reclamation of an industrial site in Bremen were, in addition to the technical suitability for subsoil improvement, the positive and quantifiable aspects of sustainability. more
Redevelopment of a former steelworks site in France
In Talange in the French department of Moselle, a site complex that was formerly used for steel production by ThyssenKrupp has been undergoing remediation for many years. A part of the project has now been successfully completed in cooperation with the French REMEX RESSOURCES MINÉRALES (RRM).
EMBANKMENTS, DAMS AND BACKFILL
Landscaping project near Amsterdam
Het groene Schip – this is the original name of one of the largest landscape projects in the Netherlands in recent years. Its purpose is visual protection for the residents of the industrial port of Amsterdam. Here, too, secondary aggregates, including incinerator bottom ash aggregates, were used for the execution. more
Armoured earth construction
The technical advantages of incinerator bottom ash are particularly demonstrated in the construction of the steep armoured wall needed to create the 24 m high plateau for the new waste transfer facility at the Kapiteltal landfill site.
Stabilisation of ski hall
An extraordinary challenge faced the beginning of this construction project: stopping the subsidence of the Bottrop ski hall and thus restoring the stability of the construction. This required a material with extraordinary properties. more
Noise barrier along the A 44 motorway
This project contributes to the improved noise situation of residents of the A 44 motorway in the Kassel districts of Oberzwehren and Nordshausen. Embankments were built using GRANOVA incinerator bottom ash, which noticeably reduce noise exposure. more
CONCRETE AND CEMENT
Dutch concrete products
In the Netherlands, HEROS Sluiskil B.V. produces GRANOVA aggregates for partial replacement of natural aggregates in concrete production. Corresponding technical and ecological guidelines were defined in the course of the Green Deal.
Research and development
Incinerator bottom ash belongs to the alternative materials, that demonstrate promising potential to making concrete and cement production more environmentally friendly and reducing the carbon footprint of this material. more
LANDFILL CONSTRUCTION
Kerpen landfill site
In Kerpen near Cologne REMEX has been responsible for the management of the landfill since 2018. Commissioned in 2020 and constructed on a former landfill site, REMEX values the qualities of secondary aggregates such as IBA for construction purposes, e.g. for the third landfill section.
ZDH landfill class II
The ZDH landfill site is key to the disposal of mineral waste from the Düsseldorf region. As part of the management responsibility, REMEX not only takes care of the correct waste placement and installation but also provides for sustainable landfill construction projects using secondary aggregates. zentraldeponie-hubbelrath.de (German)
